A cohesive team that recognised and played to their own and each other’s strengths. In addition, the team gained key skills to motivate and upskill their own teams, resulting in a more joined-up approach to achieving Vision 2025 across the organisation. 

We were originally recommended to Harwoods, a major UKbased, family-owned premium automotive retail group, as a strategy partner. Building on an established vision, we helped them develop a clear process and reporting structure to translate strategy into everyday action. Through this and other strategic interventions, we came to know the leadership team well. During COVID-19, we were engaged to design and deliver a leadership development programme for eight senior leaders.

In the context of a rapidly shifting external landscape and an internal cultural change programme, the leadership development programme aimed to equip leaders to refine and deliver the organisation’s Vision 2025 strategy.  

Our approach

Juniper’s existing relationship with the company helped us design a bespoke leadership development programme that enabled the two groups (executives and area directors) to work together and in smaller groups. 

Delivered virtually due to COVID-19 restrictions, the programme included sessions that challenged participants to increase their self-awareness and take responsibility for their progress.

Centred on Juniper’s 3P leadership excellence model (purpose-directed, people-centred and performance-driven leadership), the programme introduced the leadership team to the concept and benefits of emotional intelligence and provided a safe space for the team to begin applying the models and techniques they were exposed to.

 This was applied notably in the following areas: 

  • Developing personal brand 
  • Communicating with purpose 
  • Planning positive influence 
  • DISC personality profiling and understanding motivation 
  • Conflict management and negotiation 
  • Assertive communication 

The participants also benefited from one-to-one coaching, which helped them identify and pursue their personal development goals. 

Juniper’s leadership programme resonated immediately with our senior team. They cut through the noise, created a safe space, and helped us have the honest conversations that moved us forward during a challenging period for our business.

We became a more cohesive leadership team as a result — clear about our strengths, more aligned in our decisions, and better equipped to motivate and develop our people. It helped us take a far more joined-up approach to delivering our strategic plan, Vision 2025.

Personally, it sharpened how I lead. I still use the tools daily— ‘ask not tell’, ‘slow down to speed up’, and ‘be the change you wish to see in others’.
